Celebrating vibrant links to youth and community, Mountain Grace comes to Marietta October 8-9

Youth, energy, and strategies for building a vibrant future are the hallmarks of this year’s Mountain Grace Conference on ministry in Appalachia. You’re welcome to join us Friday night for a festive home-cooked dinner and music at host parish St. Luke’s, with a town hall meeting with Matt Ellis, director for the National Episcopal Health Network and a co-facilitator for the Presiding Bishop's domestic poverty conference this past spring.

On Saturday Dr. Richard Greenlee, dean of Ohio University Eastern in St. Clairsville, will serve as keynoter for the conference, at Washington State Community College. A social worker with deep Appalachian roots, he will share what he’s seeing among young people in the region.  Where are they putting their energy, what do they need from our faith community, and how do we get on their radar screen?

Saturday continues with workshops showcasing intentional communities of young adults, Reading Camp, afterschool programs, community organizing, Interfaith Power and Light, and planning mission trips.

Thanks to St. Luke’s hospitable ECW, the banquet costs only $20 this year. The Saturday conference is $35, which includes continental breakfast and lunch.  Scholarships established in honor of Sandy Elledge are available if this cost is a hardship.

Sponsors include Episcopal Appalachian Ministries, the Dioceses of Southern Ohio and West Virginia, ECSF, and the Evangelic Lutheran Coalition for Mission in Appalachia.
